    Default Opportunities for non-Accounts

    Hi,
I wondering what the best method is to do the following:-
Provide a Quote to a potential customer (i.e. they are not recorded as an Account, but may be recorded as a Lead).
Have this Quote appear in the sales pipeline (i.e. Opportunities)
Or, not use Quotes but just use Opportunities, but assign the Opportunity against a Lead.

The point here is that we need to be able to manage a sales pipeline for new business to potential customers. I can't see an obvious way to do this. It would be nice to be able to create a Quote for a Lead, or create an Opportunity for a Lead. When the sale is closed, the Quote/Opportunity/Lead are converted to Account/Opportunity.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

the initial idea is that you convert a lead into an Account/Contact when you are ready to create an opportunity or quote.

The Account record has a 'Type' field where you can select if it is a prospect, customer etc.

Both the Quote and Opportunity fields are Account centric, which means that they require you to select an account. It is possible to go in the code to un-require the Account name, but i do not recommend this.

Understood, thanks for the reply. I certainly don't want to meddle with the Account relationships, so will adjust my training plan as per your advice below.

I must say that I had been looking forward to know the same as well and that too for quite some time and just when I thought that there was no point in further continuing this, I just got where I wanted. Anyway, I have done exactly what you have said but it seems that I have to interfere with the accounts section which I am afraid is not under my hands and therefore I don’t have the insurance and luxury to bud into that!
