Workflow triggering outbound email

Does anybody know if the Workflow capability in SugarCRM 4.0 has the ability to automatically generate an ooutbound email for certain triggers? For example, could an inbound email meeting certain criteria automatically send out a response email? Could it also be possible to trigger future emails, afer N days send a follow-up email automatically.

Hi,

Workflow can trigger email to internal users. The users can have external email ID and that should not be an issue. But if your use case is to send emails to external users , it is not supported.

Triggering mail to external users is my use case exactly. Are there perhaps custom prcesses in the workflow? For example, a workflow triggering execution of some custom code.

A big thing I need to do is send an email to a contact, from the contact owner (so the contact can reply accordingly), based on some workflow rules and elapsed time since a date field. Of course I want this email to only be triggered to send once, and ideally only during "work hours on work days."

4.0 workflow enables you to create alerts for the following:

A user associated with the target module
A user associated with a related module
Recipient associated with a related module
Recipient associated with the target module
A specified user
All users in a specified team
All users in a specified role
Logged in user at time of execution

The realted module could be meetings or tasks. The emails can also be sent to contacts associated with a specific activity.

Okay - so here's what he meant by his above response. If you have a meeting or task that is related to a Case, and there is a contact associated with that meeting or task - if you design the workflow to update to a related module (meeting or task) then an email will be sent outside the "user body" of the system.

Just tried and it works fine. Would like to see the ability to send an email to everyone related to an account - so that way you could hit all the pertinent people associated with an account (multiple contacts).

But, for us, this might be a decent temporary work around.

We'll see, still testing.
