Default 30 day trial ftp/code access?

I've been developing on a 30 day trial account for the ondemand professional product, i want to test ideas i have that involve customizing the code (such as adding accounts as custom fields) -- does anyone know if its possible to get FTP acceess on a trial account to accomplish this? Also, before i start altering code, my trial account is 2.5.0 -- how do i get someones attention to upgrade to 2.5.1 so it wont be a problem in the transition if we choose to go with the ondemand pro and i wont have to replicate work.

i've been emailing support, but they've not gotten back to me since a week ago

    thank you

Wow, ok, I am assuming you are working on a trial SugarCRM account and if that is true (I didn't know they did 30 day trials) then I can't imagine they would give you FTP access to the system as what would keep you from simply downloading it. Why would you need FTP access to add custom fields? You can do that though studio.

And as far as version 2.5.0? 2.5.1, again I am assuming you mean 4.5.0 and 4.5.1.. in that case you may have to wait until they upgrade the whole system to 4.5.1.

I think your message here may get you some attention if the email hasn;t worked.

oops yes, 4.5.0 to 4.5.1 . Yes they have 30 day trial accounts that we;re working on integrating with and want to be 100% sure it works before spending the 2400$ for the ondemand professional product. i was told on the phone that if we spent the 30 day trial doing the development and integration then if we're satisfied it will bend to what we need , we can pay at the end and they just flip the switch to a non-trial ondemand account without losing any of the work we've done.

An important part of implementing sugar for our business model is making leads relate to accounts, accounts relate to eachother, also making opportunities relate to multiple accounts. The studio doesnt allow "account" custom fields to be added (or any other record type for that matter, seems like it would be a common requirement). From what i've learned in chat and on the forum this needs to be modified in the php code. Before we can properly test it with real data and procedures, we need these fields. Theres also a slew of other things i want to try before the money is on the table to make sure it wont break our backs getting it implemented.

i also think it would be useful to have (ftp) access to the code for the "build your own demo" on http://www.sugarcrm.com/crm/demo/sugar-suite.html , that way you could break in and mutilate the code any way you want with the test data and not damage the production instance.

i dont think they're worried about downloading the code, it's open source. i suppose if i had to i could dl the free files and try to develope hacks on a local WAMP , but then i'd have to do the work over again with the pro code when we finally get ftp access. I'd rather just have direct access to the ondemand version.

I hive no idea abou this program but if its a PRO install then it not exactly Open Source. The PRO and ENT versions of SugarCRM are based on the OS version but are commercial (my understanding). If they don't give you FTP access (and I still think thats a long shot) why don't you just download the OS version and write your code against that. I didn't really know that they allowed you to alter the base code of an on-demand product as how would they support code that you wrote. anyway I wish you luck in your investigation of SugarCRM.

There are available 30 day trials for onsite as well. You will have to sign an agreement to get the onsite trials. This is available from SugarCRM Sales and from SugarCRM partners like me. You will have full access to the sourcecode on your site. Or you could use the Sugar OnDemand 30 days. With on demand you do not have to worry about upgrading SugarCRM. But you can install modules and make Studio cusomizations.

If you want access to the code you can sign the agreement for on site 30 day demo, this needs approval by SugarCRM. Ken is right about the code not being freely distributable in the Pro and Enterprise versions of SugarCRM. But you will have access to the source code with an onsite license.

If you manually edit the code you will find that you are no-longer upgrade safe. This will cause problems later. Programming to be upgrade save requires you to not touch core logic or alter the templates manually. Use Studio to alter the templates. You will have to re-edit the logic and templates after an update if you did not comply with coding for upgradability.
