I just went through the same problem. I couldn't get the upload to work, it just timed out. I looked at other threads and saw advice for various config files. All of mine seemed to be okay. I decided to seperate the upload problem from the upgrade and get my SugarCRM upgraded. I'll investigate the upload portion later.

So I manually did the upload with ftp and then successfully did the upgrade from 4.2.0d to 4.2.1a. It's not completely straighforward though. Here is what I did.

SugarCRM - When the upgrade wizard cannot upload an archive.

There are a number of reasons this could occur, some of which have nothing to do with SugarCRM. This is how to get the upgrade or patch archive loaded and ready for the upgrade wizard to work with.

This procedure was done with the 4.2.0 to 4.2.1a upgrade to the OS version.
Download the upgrade/patch to your local system.
    SugarSuite-Upgrade--4.2.0-to-4.2.1a.zip
    Extract the single file manifest.php.
    Rename the file to SugarSuite-Upgrade--4.2.0-to-4.2.1a-manifest.php
Ftp the zip file and the renamed manifest to the SugarCRM server
    <SugarCRM root>/cache/upload/upgrades/patch/

Now go into SugarCRM to the upgrade wizard. The upgrade will show as uploaded and available for installation. Proceed with the normal SugarCRM procedure from this point.

    Hope this helps. Dean.

tried it several times and got different responses:

    time out
    error
    nothing!

I think I will just install from scratch(luckily, it was a new install).

I hope that the Sugar Team learn that a roll up patch may not be the best thing in the future!
