5.1.0b Assigned To: not working in Opportunities?

I just did a fresh install of SugarCRM 5.1.0b on MySQL 5.1 w/PHP 5 and am having trouble seeing the Assigned To value in the Opportunity pages--it is blank. When I look in the Opportunities DB table, it looks like the Assigned ID is set properly and crosschecks with the User table.

Another strange phenomenon is that I changed the usernames from finitiallastname to firstname.lastname and all the fields still reflect the old username structure in the views.

Has anyone encountered these issues?

i am having this at the account module. the assigned user id is set correct and displayed on the listview but not on the edit and detail view!
any hints?

well what about cache?
the field is labeled "assigned to" but the variable is not displayed although it is set!
