Actually, when you create a Lead the only mandatory field is LAST NAME.
Then, when you convert the Lead, LAST NAME remains the only mandatory field.
If converting the Lead you choose to create an Account (in addition to the Contact), you obviously obtain a second mandatory field that is ACCOUNT NAME. What else would you expect? Yes, you could say an Account Id would be enough, but then, how would you later, when you need to search that account?
What do you think the cookie monster eats ?
