Account Names "Disappearing" from Leads

I imported a thousand leads from a CSV into SugarCRM, mapping the company name to the Account Name field. Since I had no personal names, I also put the company name in the Last Name field. (Surely a red herring, but just in case...)

The Account Name lists correctly in a Lead ListView, but does not show up on the DetailView. And it's not there in EditView. And of course saving the lead empties the field. A query of the database shows that the fields do have value until they are edited.
