Account search by phone

How can I do an account search by phone without having to write down the entire phone #??

I want to be able to enter just a portion of the phone # like in the following screenshot:



But it seems that search only works if the entire phone # is written down. This makes having a search box entirely pointless.

if you search for "%7240" all accounts with phone numbers containing 7240 will be listed.
