Default Acct search needs whole name, mass-update address, import, targets?

Sorry folks, multiple questions here as I builld and populate my Sugar 6 installation ...

    1) Under accounts when I search for, say, a taxi company, nothing shows up if I just type "taxi" in the name field. However, I have two taxi accounts, both with taxi in their name.

I can search for part of a name under Contacts, just not Accounts. Is this right?

    2) Many of my contacts and accounts were imported without the country in their address. I've added checks to the mass import boxes for other fields but can't find a way to do it for address fields. Is there a way?

    3) Under a previous installation of Sugar it was possible to mass update other information by exporting and editing in excel than re-importing to Sugar. Now when I import an updated contact or account, it adds a new one, instead of updating the existing one.

It seems an obvious thing but I can't find the setting that changes this.

    4) I've created several new fields that I've put in Accounts and Contacts layouts. Now I want to create a Target list using data searched from within these fields.

According to searches in the help files, it should be possible to add these fields to Target Advanced Search in Studio, but I can't seem to do this. How is it done?

I've installed a JWW Design Reports module but the method is still not apparent.

Sorry for such a long post - hopefully you clever people can help me resolve all or some of these problems.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jo

I've had similar issues in our crm, I'm guessing one of the recent updates have caused this. Try using a '%' symbol in front of the word taxi which will search for the word taxi even if it's in the middle of the account name.

    2) Many of my contacts and accounts were imported without the country in their address. I've added checks to the mass import boxes for other fields but can't find a way to do it for address fields. Is there a way?
Are you sure you can't set each individual field, such as billing_address_city, billing_address_state to Importable=Yes in studio?

    3) Under a previous installation of Sugar it was possible to mass update other information by exporting and editing in excel than re-importing to Sugar. Now when I import an updated contact or account, it adds a new one, instead of updating the existing one.
In the import process, when you get to Step 3, click show advanced options. The options view looks all out of wack, at least on my instance, because you have to scroll far right to find the options to "Verify duplicate entries against selected indexes." Make sure you add the id into that box to verify against and it shouldn't create duplicates.

    4) I've created several new fields that I've put in Accounts and Contacts layouts. Now I want to create a Target list using data searched from within these fields.
I haven't messed around much with this functionality, but maybe try adding those same fields to the Targets module, and be sure that they are an exact copy of what they are in the Contacts Accounts modules. For example if you have custom_field_1_c in Contacts add a field called custom_field_1_c to Targets. Again, not sure if this will work but it may be worth trying.

Hi, thanks for the thoughtful reply.

% works perfectly, thanks for this tip!

Sorry - on Number 2 I realise I made a typo. i shoudl have said "mass update" instead of mass import.

It seems silly that we have to recreate fields in the search layout. Perhaps I can find out more by doing another question on that topic alone - I know it's a common topic but seemingly not answered here.
