You should just be able to drag/drop the AJAX item in the Studio/Module Builder.

What is an AJAX Item? When I try, it just replaces the existing item with the new item i am trying to add.

If you are in Studio and editing a view, there is a "Row" item to the left (just below the trash can). Drag that onto your layout to add another row.
