Add Text Area instead of Text Field in Address

hi

im building a few secondary address fields in the contacts section. when i add an 'address' it gives me several fields, one being the street address. however, this is only 1 line of text where i need to have 2 or 3 lines.

is there any way to change the field to be a text_area (ie a bos i can add 3 lines to) rather than a text_field (1 line)?

i have tried deleting the street field from the automatically created address fields then recreating a new field with a text_area and the same name but when i do that i can no longer see any contacts at all, it seems to crash the database sync or something

anyone got any suggestions?

St Vincent's Hospital, Suite 1, Level 3, Healy Wing, 41 Victoria Parade
FITZROY, VIC

when i need it to look like this:

St Vincent's Hospital
Suite 1, Level 3, Healy Wing
41 Victoria Parade
FITZROY, VIC
Australia 3065

ps. i know i could create new fields for the secondary addresses, but apparently creating fields as 'address' somehow makes sugar mesh better with word for things like mail exports and the like. is this true? or is it just as easy to export individual fields as an 'address' set of fields?

SugarCRM has concatenated address since its earliest editions .. I don't understand the design decision behind this and it would be interesting to get a sugar perspective on it.

However, the simplest solution would be to create addressline2, addressline3 address lines. Don't delete the existing sugar fields, just replace them.

What's the business reason for doing this?

I got your idea! Actually we had implemented such feature for a customer.
How are your skills regarding SugarCRM and php development?
You need to:

• create a new field template based on Address;
• customize the editviewdefs.php and detailviewdefs.php to consider this new field instead of the default one;
