Default Adding a new field and Example records.

    Hi a Newby here!!!!

I have downloaded installed and now have running 5.1. No install issues and all seems okay. Have read the Users Guide and now want to import some contacts data. The users guide says that is a field does not exist that I want to map to then I have to create it. Logical to me, however I cannot seem find out how you do this! Which documentation is this in.

I asked for the sample database to be installed 'example', how do I get rid of those entries? Is it just a general select and delete? I suppose I should do this before I import me own contacts!

    Cheers

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

to create custom fields, you need to do this via Studio in the Admin area. You can view the Admin guide here

There are additional step by step guides and videos here

For the sample data, it is best to delete it from the database. You could create a SQL statement to delete all records from each table. It is best to do this before importing your contacts.

Sorry meant to asked a supplemental question.

Have a test .csv file with 10 records to test the loading/importing, but they will not import correclty even when I think I am mapping correctly. Have read all the doc about this, any other doc/suggestion to look at for this. Do the default fields need to have an entry for the import to work correctly?

    Hi Mike,

This is a good place to start.

You want to make sure that you are correctly mapping your fields from your csv to the fields in Sugar, that they are the same data type (ex: that you are not mapping a text fiedl into an integer field in Sugar), that required fields in Sugar are populated on your spreadsheet, and that you do not have any 'special' characters in your csv. This can cause the import to stop (sometimes a type of apostrophe is considered a special character and will not import).

Can you be a bit more specific on your exact steps and what exactly is happening? what version of 5.1 are you using?
