Advice needed please

Hi there,

Now that I have my Sugar up and running with the latest version I would like to start modifying the layout and labels.

If I do this will there be any problems when the next upgrade or patch comes out or will I be able to install these in the usual way?

If you just use the studio component to add, modify, delete fields or drop-down lists, then these modifications are safe when upgrading from one version to another. Technically: additional fields are added to new tables, i.e. mods to Accounts are added to the table accounts_cstm. Changes to field names, or drop down lists are written to files in the directory custom and are not modified

After reading another long thread about bugs in Studio, I have become doubtful about using it. However, so far I have been. Custom fields without drop-downs are working fine. But a field WITH a dropdown has the following problems:

This is my only custom field that is a dropdown - so I am thinking that is relevant.


This field was loaded up by the Import Wizard and I can see it in the Contacts_cstm table using phpMyAdmin.

1. In Detail view, the data does not show up in the field initially.
2. In List View it DOES (I added it to the fields to be displayed in List View)
3. In Edit View, the field shows up as empty, BUT the appropriate drop-down list is available. If I select a value and save it and then return to Detail View, the proper value DOES appear.

This is not the only field I have loaded using the Import Wizard. The others (in the Accounts module) are fine.

I am willing to hand edit files, but I like the idea that if I use Studio I won't have to worry about redoing the custom fields. Plus, I need a little guidance about what to edit.

I'd appreciate any insights.
