    Default Amazon SES SMTP configuration

Amazon today announced support for SMTP with their SES service (Amazon Simple Email Service Gets Simpler with SMTP).

Has anyone successfully configured this in SugarCRM?

I have configured the outgoing email settings (Admin - Email Settings) as follows:

    From: <a verified email address>
    SMTP Mail Server: email-smtp.us-east-1.amazonaws.com
    Port: 465
    Use SMTP Authentication: <checked>
Enable SMTP over SSL or TLS?: I've tried NONE, SSL and TLS
    Username: <IAM username>
    Password: <IAM password>

but get the following error in sugarcrm.log:

SMTP -> ERROR:Password not accepted from server. Code: 535 Reply: 535 AUTH failed

I've verified the credentials and used them successfully using Thunderbird.

I'd be grateful for any advice.

    Dan

Default Re: Amazon SES SMTP configuration

I found that my password wasn't being saved correctly if I clicked on the Send Test Email before saving the settings. This has been reported as a bug (SugarCRM Bug Tracker | Open Source Business & Social CRM - SugarCRM).

With the settings saved correctly, Amazon SES SMTP is working without a problem. For those just starting to use SES, keep monitoring your 24 hour send quota and adjusting the 'Number of emails sent per batch' in 'Campaign Email Settings' to ensure you don't send more than this.
