Associate or link email with a contact or lead?

Can I automatically associate an email with a lead or contact? Preferably by emailing/copying a message to a Sugar-monitored email address, like salesforce.com does? I would like an easy way to maintain a history with a lead or contact (without having to do this manually in Sugar after I send an email).

(I am using Sugar CE 5.2.)

Yes, use the email address to match the existing contact/lead and link them in activities, this is a very important feature for CRM I suppose.

Has anyone worked this out? Or is there any other CRM actually has this useful feature? Opensource one is preferable.

If you create a monitored inbox through Admin page and add the sugar cron.php script into your cron Sugar will automatically assign an email with a record whose email address match.

Thanks for the tip. As I'm quite new to Sugar, please let me ask some silly questions about your solution.

1. Does that mean I need to write some code myself in cron.php to do the email/lead matching up? If so, any sample for this logic?
2. then I need to add 'php cron.php' into system crontab?

I'm interested in the same issue. I have version 5.2 CE and I'd really like to be able to automatically log incoming and outgoing emails from the sugar email client to the contacts with matching email addresses. I think I understand the monitored inbox feature, but doesn't that require the owner of the inbox to manually assign emails to users?

This installation is for an agency that does almost all it's work via email and it would be difficult in a fast paced sales environment to have to manually assign incoming emails to users as the users are in different facilities.

Is it possible to have a monitored inbox and have incoming emails sent to the users inbox automatically or is this feature just for support sites and call centers?

Any help is appreciated. I'm learning an awful lot about Sugar from this forum!
