Question Automatic backup of customizations made in studio?

    Hello

I have set up at daily mysql backup, which backs up my sugar contents.

However I would also like to make weekly backups of the custom fields made in Studio. I have succesfully used the export customizations from the webinterface. Is there a way to do the same thing from command-line? Or maybe there is some other way to make automatic backups of customizations?

    I am running Windows XP using Fastrack CE 5.20k (Build 5837) with MySQL and Apache/2.0.59 (Win32) mod_ssl/2.0.59 OpenSSL/0.9.8e PHP/5.2.5.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards,
    Niklas Petersen

I would recommend backing up the entire application on a weekly basis as Sugar spreads the files around. If this is too much, then certainly you should backup:

    cache
    custom
    modules
    data

Thanks a lot for your input. I have a few further questions:

The thing I like about the export function, is that it backs up just my customizations (or at least I believe it does). Making a backup of the entire installation dir seems a little "messy" to me, meaning that I cannot make a clean install and apply only the customizations only, instead I get a lot of stuff copied over that I did not ask for. Is there a way to make a "clean" copy of just the custom fields?

I would like to be able to apply the customizations to a newer version - will I be able to do that simply by copying the files from the directories you mention?

When migrating from an older version running Linux, I was unsuccesful in copying the customizations by simply copying the custom directory.

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

    Niklas

SugarCRM uses the Cache directory extensively to store uploads/emails/images.

If you do not back this up ... then even with the custom changes exported and a copy of the database, you will not be able to fully recreate Sugar.

See here for an excellent article on the cache directory
