I am trying to format my web-to-lead form so that the data from some custom fields will be imported directly in to one of the default contact fields when I convert the lead.
To clarify: on my website I would like to use custom fields to list some things as drop-down menus (such as state and country) but I would like those to be linked to the DEFAULT text-box fields of the same category when the lead is converted. I want to do this because when my leads are coming in I am having to spend a lot of time reformatting them because the default fields are all text boxes. I want the the country and state (and other) fields in my web-to-lead form to be drop-down menus, but I want that information to be transferred to the regular text box default fields when I convert that lead to a contact.
It is important that I preserve the default text fields that are currently under contacts because:
a. I want to be free to add notes or custom entries when editing contacts but I do not want to give total textual freedom to the person creating the lead.
and
b. I already have thousands of contacts with state and country text fields and I need to keep every contact consistent for export purposes.
The purpose of this is to automate and standardize leads so that in the future I don't have to format every single one by hand. The point is, I know I could convert these leads with custom fields and then manually copy the information in to a default field, but I want sugar to do this automatically.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
