Default Backing up Sugar application files

    Hi,
I have been customising Sugar by creating custom fields and layouts in the Studio, for the Contacts and Accounts sections. I would like to make sure I have all this personalisation work properly backed up. Unfortunately, I've had a hard time performing a backup using the 'Backups' feature in the 'Admin' zone.

In the 'Administration: Backups' screen, I type the path to a designated folder in the 'Directory:' field and the name I want for the backup file (including the .zip extention) in the 'Filename:' field.
I then get the following message and no backup is done :
Backup directory does not exist, and could not be created.
Backup directory exists, but is not writable.

Yet, the folder does exist in the right location and is writable, to my best knowledge (I'm logged into XP Home using an admin account).

Any clue what I am doing wrong ?
    Thanks, all.

It kind of sounds like the IIS user doesn't have rights to the directory in question. Verify that the IUSER_<machine name> has write access to that directory.

I'm actually using Apache and MySQL. They were both installed with Sugar using the bitrock installer.
I'm not quite sure how to get the admin user to have write access to the directory. I shared the directory over the network but I'm not sure that's enough.

Take a look at the Processes tab in Task Manager, making sure to select the box at the bottom to display processes of all users. Check the username under which Apache.exe is running. Verify the specified user has access to the directory in question.

Apache.exe is running under my user name. I have administrator privileges and write access to the directory I selected for backing up Sugar. Any ideas ?

    Angel,
Come to think of it, rather than running a separate backup procedure for the config files (re: Backups screen in the Admin zone) and for the database itself, would it not be more convenient to just run a backup of the whole sugar directory ?
If I backup the following directory :
    c:\Program Files\sugarcrm-4.5.0f
do I have all I need to retore the following :
    database content + structure
sugar configuration files, including customised fields, dropdowns and displays
customised user interface (tab displays and naming)
    language packs
    currencies

    Thanks,
    Edward

    Win XP Home SP2
    Sugar 4.5.0f
    Apache
    MySQL
