    Default Backup Issue

I am running SugarCE 5.1 and am trying to move it to a new server. I ran a backup of the old version and ended up with a 570 MB backup file which seems to be a corrupted zip file. The size is unbelievable to me, but I have run the backup three times with the same result. What am I doing wrong here?

To restore that install on a new server I need to load the MySQL DB and unzip the backup in the sugar directory. Anything else I need to do at that point? Is it pretty straight forward to get it to locate the DB on the new server?

I am not a technical person so please answer with a reply suitable for a sales guy. :-)

    Thanks.

Well, the size is most likely because of uploaded documents and SugarCRM upgrades.

Moving servers is not an easy job for non-techies, are you on Windows?

The new server is Linux, I believe the previous one was as well. I'm using a Mac and transmit. Unzipping the backup on my desktop or on the server both result in an error.
I have almost no documents saved in Sugar, one or two maybe.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Well, let's start at the beginning.

You need a decent archive. How are you creating your archive? Zip files are not as good as Tar files, so try using WinRar to create a tar archive. Or, just skip the archiving and copy the files directly.

You need to set the permissions on your new Linux server. Do you have ssh access?

The database is probably the easiest. Do you have phpmyadmin on both ends?

You may also need to edit your config.php file to change the server name and/or MySQL password.

Thanks for the feedback. Here's what I can tell you, let me know if any more information would be helpful.

I am running SugarCE 5.1 with a MySQL database and am using Mac OS 10.4 on my desktop and the old was windows and the new server is Linux. I have so far been able to move the SQL database but the backup of the install is not being cooperative.

I ran the backup portion of the admin section of the install on the old server. I tried both with and without a .zip extension on the file name. In both cases I got a 580 MB file. After downloading it for hours via ftp I tried to unzip it and received the following errors:

If I just double click it on a Mac I get ""Unable to unarchive "name of file" into "desktop". (Error 1 - Operation not permitted.)"

If I use the Terminal unzip I get "End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive."

And if I try with StuffIt I get "The archive may be damaged (Error #17537)"

The file seems excessively large since I don't have a lot of saved attachments, and seems to be an incomplete file, or something.

Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong? (BTW the lack of a "restore" section of the documentation seems like an oversight.

    Thanks

Did you ever find resolution to the Admin, Backups not creating a good .zip file?

I am on 5.1.0b and have the same problem. The .zip file created by Sugar cannot be unzipped in either Linux or Windows (after FTPing to a Windows box).
