My personal opinion is that the simplest way is to backup the Sugar install directory along with the MySQL dump file for the corresponding database.

My personal setup is on a CentOS 5.0 server. I just do a 'cp -R /var/www/html/crm /var/run/html/crmbackup' and then use MySQL Gui Administrator to backup the database to a dumpfile. I also use this method to create backup "sandbox" environments to test hacks/modules before implementing them into production.

My Sugar CRM is still version 4.5.1e and installed on WindowsXP. Basically at this moment I only use Sugar as customer data storage (I don't use Sugar's emails, campaigns, etc).
I am not a programmer or have background in programming, so I will appreciate if somebody can teach me a little more detail of how to do backup?

    Thanks.

If you are on Windows, use Windows explorer to make a copy of the "SugarCRM" folder (or whatever you named it) and store that copy in a safe place. That would handle your Sugar program files.

As far as the database, get SQLyog (www.webyog.com). That is a MySQL admin utility that you can in turn use to connect to your MySQL server and make a backup of your database, which you should then copy to a safe place as well.

Not knowing how you went about your installation, it is hard to give further specifics, e.g. location of SugarCRM folder.

On http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/gui-tools/5.0.html you can download the official GUI Tools for MySQL.
Part of these GUI Tools is the MySQl Administrator with an excellen BACKUP-Module fpr MySQL Databases.

I use on WINXP/WIN2003 the Windows Backup to backup the sugarcrm directory and the target directory of the mysql administrator db backup.
