Big problem in updating

Hello everybody.
I'm actually using Sugar 3.5.0b since during last months I had no time to upgrade to the newest versions. Now i'm trying to migrate Sugar to 4.0 but I encounter a lot of problems. First of all in my installation I cannot use the upgrade wizard to install a newer version. When I try to upload a patch file the process terminates with a blank Sugar screen and no upgrade is ready to be installed. I even tried to make a fresh installation of 3.5.0c and to restore a previously backedup DB, but when I try to access the main page I obtain the MySQL error 1065 (Query is empty). The same thing trying a fresh installation of 3.5.1a and a restore and upgrade (using the SQL script in the upgrade directory) of the DB.
Since I do not think that reentering all the data I have on a fresh installation of Sugar 4.0 could be a good solution... anybody has a suggestion ? I would really appreciate your help.
