Can I add a button to a module to make a phone call?

Hey everyone,

Totally new to SugarCRM and looking to possibly move from Microsoft Dynamics CRM but evaluating if it can do the critical tasks that I do in Dynamics.

Right now, all my sales reps log their calls. Sugar seems similar to Dynamics in that when you're in an opportunity or an account for example, you can click Log Call and so on.

In Dynamics, I added a button to the top of each form, like accounts, etc which says Phone Call. It's just a quick link so they don't have to click Actions, add new, activity, phone call etc. It's a tiny change but everyone LOVES it and can't live without.

I'm concerned with Sugar because the Log Call button is sort of hidden in the Activities view lower on the screen. I'm just wondering, is there any way to put a quick link as a button on the top?

I want it pretty much where it says Edit, Duplicate, Delete, Find Duplicates, View Change Log. Would be nice if the last one said Phone Call.

There is an ASTERISK VOIP integration by KINAMU in sugarforge.
Perhaps this can help.

Sugar itself has a SKYPE integration, so that your phone numbers show up as skype calling numbers which can be clicked directly to phone via skype.

They use the callto: reference settings, which could be used for other integrations too.

As Kuske eluded to, there are a number of possibilities and they range from the addition of a button to more elaborate integrations.

I tend to use Skype quite a bit and that led to the development of a Skype link, a limited version of which can be downloaded and used for free (see my sig for link). If you do use Skype, it might be worth a look.

In a nutshell, it allows you to query the database and then dial. Once the call is finished, it automatically prompts the user to log the call.

Good to know that others are working on suitable solutions too.
What I really miss is a call agent client for telesales campaigns,
unfortunately there is only a small market and a lot of vanilla solutions.

have a look at this . ... we use this internally and with some customers of ours. Since the market is small we also do not provide this for free but at a reasonable license if you are interested.

Thanks everyone. I can't really see that telemarketing addon, the screenshots are really hard to see and blury but I'll check it again after.

Maybe I'm not being clear though. I don't need something to actually dial the phone. Just, you know when you're in an opportunity and at the bottom you can click Log Call? I'm wondering if I can have that "Log Call" button simply moved to the very top of the page, beside all the current buttons like Edit, Save etc. That's what I mean...
