Default Can I install SugarCRM on a shared online web-server?

    Hi,
apologies if this is a common question, I've run a few searches but couldn't find a clear answer.
I'm new to SugarCRM and am interested in setting it up so it can be accessed through the Internet hosted on a relatively cheap shared web host.
The host won't allow registration of dlls as far as I'm aware.
Something along the lines of the basic Linux package here: http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/hosting/compare/
    Is this possible?
What would the procedure be for installation?
    Many thanks,
    Bob

i think you yust need a running webserver with f.e. an MySQL database. for installation just extract the .zip archieve, optionally rename the directory and run the installtion script via adressing "your webserver/your_sugardirectory/" in some webbrowser. this should start the installation script and guide you throgh the installation process.

You'll need PHP and MySQL. Make sure that Fasthosts are using PHP compilied with options that you require, you'll need access to crontab if you're setting auto inbound email as well.

It should be up to it, many people run Sugar using shared hosting supplied by their ISP.

Thanks, I've had a chat with the company and they think this is possible. I'll let you know how I get on.

Where do I find a list of the PHP options I require? I'll double check about crontab.

    Many thanks!

Just been having a look on the Fasthosts site... noticed that outgoing email is disabled in scripts unless it's going to another Fasthosts email address. Not much good for mailing lists.
Can anyone recommend an affordable shared hosting provider?
    Cheers,

I tried to install with my existing hosting provider and it took a LOT of time and support. To make it easier I went to a hosting provider call siteground.com. All you have to do is tell them you want Sugar installed and they will INSTALL IT AT NO CHARGE. Their hosting is very inepensive also. The biggest problem I've seen with them is their tech support does not seem to accept phone calls. However, they have been very quick to respond and address issues through email.

    Good luck.

    Hello,

My weigh in on this issue. I have spent 3 months now trying to get SugarCRM installed on shared hosting plans(yes we did EVERYTHING). Mostly with Hostgator.com (sorry gator guys, but its true), and have had very little luck.

To their credit they have tried, and I also went to another cheap shared hosting company (hostforweb) and that failed too.

The main bug is always related to incoming email. No matter what we tried the Check Email button alwas hung, and failed.

The feedback I got from Sugar was, also that they recommended dedicated servers. The issue seems mainly to be with Shared Apache connections, because whenever it fails an Apache Restart usually fixes the problem.

Unfortunately cheap shared hosting solutions usually do not allow you to restart Apache by yourself, and if they did, its still a pain in the butt to have that unreliability.

I recently installed 4.2.0d on a VPS at Liquid Web.com and incoming email using POP3 worked first time out of the gate, and has not failed yet. (I also like Liquid Web, because the technical detail trail is fairly transparent, and I like to know what is going on, instead of just being told "we are working on it"

    Just my 2 cents.

    Thanks guys,
the budget will only cover shared hosting,
I did discover a few hosts that preinstall SugarCRM, including Siteground.
The following host looks appealing, does anyone have any experience with them? successfulhosting.com

If you really can't install Sugar on a shared server then its a real shame, because while its not perfect, the software could help so many small businesses.
