Default Can Opportunity be related to Document?

    Hey all,

I need to make relation between Opportunities and Documents, each opportunity should have contract document. I tried to Create new field (type: Relate) in Opportunities module, but there is no Documents item in modules drop down list. How could I solve this?

You might try a quick search of the forums next time:

Files is at the bottom, but read the post as not all of them work. The Opportunities one does, so you can install that and none of the others if you'd like.

    Kalendrinn,

thanks a lot for your quick reply. However, i'm new in sugarCRM and php as well and couldn't install DocOppRelationships. Could you briefly describe how I should do this?

You should be able to install the DocOppRelationships package by going to the Module Installer, uploading the DocOppRelationships.zip and then installing it. Once it is installed (assuming you get no errors), you will have subpanels in Documents for related Opportunities and a subpanel in Opportunities for related Documents.

From the subpanels you can attach/relate one or the other. Are you getting any errors on install or were you having trouble finding where to install it?

    wica,

There seems to be issues with creating a relate field from the studio. It creates it and allows you to work with in the edit view etc.. but the Sugar developers didn't implement the necessary vardef changes. They have sadi this supposed to be fixed in 5.1 due in a month or two. For now check out:

    http://www.sugarcrm.com/wiki/index.p...s_in_Sugar_5.0

in the Sugar Wiki. I think you are having the same issues I am with my relate fields. They show up but as soon as you have data there goes the views!

    Hope this helps,
    Paris

BTW I think you will need a one-to-one relate instead of a one-to-many. Make the necessary changes to the above link!

Depends on the nature of the document. If it's a generic document that may apply to many different opportunities, or an opportunity that may have multiple contracts, addendums, etc associated with it...a many-to-many may be a better way to go. Plus, Documents have versioning whereas attachments on Notes do not...better for contracts and the like.
