    Default Can you tell me if SugarCRM can do this?

    I just installed SugarCRM on a Webmin Virtual server on the Amazon cloud. A guide is available. "How to setup a server on the Amazon cloud and install SugarCRM in 30 minutes" is available at http://www.marcuscake.com/instant-crm.html

    I have something specific things that I need Sugar to do. I was hoping some experienced users in the community could give me some pointers as to how achieve them.

    Can Sugar do the following?
    • Industry tags: I need to assign contacts to an Industry. Can I assign them to more than one industry (ie; multiple selection box)?
    • Intention tags: I need to have a pull-down of what they contact intends to do ie; spending 1-2m, cutting costs, not purchasing
    • Can I search by these tags from the contact search screen?
    • Can I view summary graphs based upon these tags?
    • Can a user be restricted to viewing only contacts that have a specific tag?
    • Can a user be restricted to viewing contacts and activities of a specific campaign?
    • What is the difference between a target and a contact?


    I would really appreciate any assistance.

    Hi Marcus,

    Cool idea setting up Sugar on Amazon's cloud ! We are very interested in exploring the viability of this for our hosted customers.

    Regarding your questions:

    * Industry tags: I need to assign contacts to an Industry. Can I assign them to more than one industry (ie; multiple selection box)?

    Add a custom multi-select field to the Contacts module using the Studio in Admin.

    * Intention tags: I need to have a pull-down of what they contact intends to do ie; spending 1-2m, cutting costs, not purchasing

    Add a custom dropdown field to the Contacts module.

    * Can I search by these tags from the contact search screen?

    Add the custom fields to the Basic and Advanced Search Forms in Studio.

    * Can I view summary graphs based upon these tags?

    Yes.

    * Can a user be restricted to viewing only contacts that have a specific tag?

    That's tricky, but one possibility is to map the tags to Teams and use a logic hook to enforce the mapping. Then you can use the Teams functionality to control access to the records. Note that you need the Pro or Enterprise version for Teams.

    * Can a user be restricted to viewing contacts and activities of a specific campaign?

    Similar to the issue above. The solution should involve Teams or some kind of custom programming.

    * What is the difference between a target and a contact?

    A Target is a name on a list. Contacts are past, present or likely future customers (i.e. you have Opportunities with them).

    Hi!

    I have created a multi-select box in the accounts module. The mutli-select uses the dom-industry list.

    If I create a new account, the multi-select box works - it stores the multiple selections and displays them on the edit screen.

    I have imported an address list into the accounts module. If I try to edit an existing account (source from the imported list), it will not save the items I selected in the multi-select box and does not display them on the edit screen.

    Does anyone know why multi-select may not work for an imported account?
