Cannot Edit/Save in Contacts or Accounts

Running Version 6.2.3 (Build 6658) CE

When try to save a change in contacts or accounts get message:
"Database failure. Please refer to sugarcrm.log for details."

Sugarcrm.log shows:
Query Failed: Update contacts set date_modified='2011-09-26 23:06:52',.........': MySQL error 1449: There is no 'root'@'' registered

Not sure why it is trying user root, that is not in config.php and have no issues saving changes to opportunities, tasks, etc.

Have done Repair and Rebuild with no success.

Help greatly appreciated.

Upgraded to version 6.2.4. Still not working. Changed log setting to debug and below extract. Queries are OK to select info, but update is a problem though connection is set as persistent so no new db_connect should happen
