Default Can't add custom field to Edit or Create Views

I'm new to Sugar CRM, and I'm trying to evaluate it for my company. What I'm trying to do is add a custom field (a simple dropdown box) to the contacts screen. I went through the Admin->Edit Module, and created the custom field in the contacts module. Then I hit Edit Layout, and dragged it into place. I hit save and publish, and it seemed to work. But when I went to the actual Contacts screen in the app, I don't see my field. If I go back to the edit layout screen, I can see it there. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I'm running the Open Source version of Sugar CRM with a SQL Server 2k5 backend. I'm running Version 4.5.0e (Build 1185). If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE let me know. It's probably something obvious, but I've never used this program before. Thanks.

    Default One more thing

Let me also add that there are certain things that do work. I can edit a currently existing dropdown. It's also allowing me to change the label on a field that's already there. And the last thing I can do is add custom fields to a list view, which doesn't do me any good because they don't show up on the edit view, and thus don't have any data.

    Hello Guys,

First of all, depending on whatever I have understood, I can guarantee that you have followed the correct steps. I don't know the exact solution but once I had faced a similar problem and here is what I had tried

Do whatever you had done. Create a custom field using Studio, then go to "Edit a Layout" and click Edit View. Put the new custom field in proper place and hit Save and Publish. Then click on Detail View and again put the new field in proper place and hit Save and Publish.

Go to the module now. If you can see your field there, you are done. Else, click on Advanced Search tab in List View of your module. Now just click Search and again test.

This worked for me but in a different scenario. I had the same problem with List View's already existing field.

    Try it.

    Thanks

I wound up reinstalling the whole thing, after purchasing the Enterprise version. It works fine now. Sorry, but thanks for the suggestion.

    Hi

I've got a similar issue and I'm trying to trace the cause.

What I have found is that the DisplayView is being edited. The modified file can be viewed in the cache and the modules directory and is being updated with date/timestamp.

Turning on the error tracing what I have found is that selecting DetailViiew or EditView only returns the DetailView.

So even though I am modifying what I think is the EditView it is actually the DetailView in both cases. Selecting the edit layout detail view the error trace shows

Notice: Undefined index: record occured in C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\include\DetailView\D etailView.php on line 240 [2007-07-23 12:59:07]
    [L:](:stacktraceerrorhandler)
    C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\include\DetailView\D etailView.php[L:240](:processlistnavigation)
    C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\cache\studio\modules \Accounts\DetailView.php[L:172](detailview:processlistnavigation)
    C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\modules\Studio\EditL ayout.php[L:87](:include_once)
    C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\modules\Studio\index .php[L:40](:require_once)
    C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\index.php[L:751](:include)

And if I select the Edit view from the same page I get

Notice: Undefined index: record occured in C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\include\DetailView\D etailView.php on line 240 [2007-07-23 13:13:53]
    [L:](:stacktraceerrorhandler)
    C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\include\DetailView\D etailView.php[L:240](:processlistnavigation)
    C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\cache\studio\modules \Accounts\DetailView.php[L:172](detailview:processlistnavigation)
    C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\modules\Studio\EditL ayout.php[L:87](:include_once)
    C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\modules\Studio\index .php[L:40](:require_once)
    C:\Inetpub\apps\sugarcrm_test\index.php[L:751](:include)

Which is the same error set. So the selection process for Edit View is not working and as a result the Edit View layout cannot be changed.

    SugarCRM Version 4.5.1d (Build 1273)

Updated to pathc Version 4.5.1e (Build 1049)

No change for Editing Accounts module.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

    Tony

    Hi folks,

Brand new user here (Version 4.5.1e) and was having the same problem not seeing my custom field in edit view.

Followed sagarladdha's advice from above post and found it to be an excellent workaround. I now have access to my custom field in the edit view.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi

We have to put the custome field in both the detail view as well as edit view.

Now if we put the field just in the edit view, this field will only be visible while entering a new record or edit a record.
After saving the record we see the detail view and not the edit view. Now since the field is not put in detail view you cannot see it after it is saved. To see it we have to put the field in the detail view also.

Same is the case with list view and search form.
