Default Can't connect email server in inbound email setting

    SugarCRM OS 4.21b and SugarSuite-4.5.0c

    Platfrom: linux -- fc5 2.6.15-1.2054
    dovecot 1.0.beta8
    mysql 5.0.22
    php 5.1.4

To config the email OUTBOUND & INBOUND SETTING,
I cannot pass the test and always has the following error message,
    both for IMAP and POP3:

    TEST SETTINGS
    Can't connect to <MyEmailServer, 143>: Permission denied
Please check your settings and try again.
    [ Close Window ]

Would you please to advise how to fix it.

    Many thanks!

Can you connect to your email server with another client (thunderbird, Outlook express...etc)?

Yes. I can connect the email server by Thunderbird or Outlook Express.

Futhermore, from the location of SugarCRM server installed, I can telnet to <MyEmailServer (separate fc5 server to install postfix> at ports 110 (pop3) and 143 (IMAP), it also responded correctly.

If you want some logs or screen dumping, please let me know how to do.

    Many thanks!

    I have the same problem.

I have confirmed the username and password by connecting to the Exchange Server.

Interesting note: Only one of my users has failed (out of 4 attempted)--But the problem is definitely on the SugarCRM or hosting side not on our In-house Exchange server (or an incorrect password/username).

We have 4.5 updated to Patch D.

I don't have the OS, Apache, MySQL, PHP info right now.

I have contacted our SugarCRM hosting service and I am waiting for their opinion.

You might want to ask your provider about blocked ports as well?

I will ask my SugarCRM hosting provider about blocked ports.

However the odd thing is that only one user (so far) cannot access our in-house Exchange server from our hosted SugarCRM. As far I understand all connections are made through the same port "110" since this is a POP3 connection. If there is another meaning for "port", please let me know. Is each port different eg -- User A Port 110, User B Port 110, User C Port 110, etc?

    Thanks,

    Nichols

You only have one User having this problem? Did you try resetting the password to access the mailserver? Or reset the password on the mail server for that user. This sounds like a password Issue.

I ran into this same problem while setting up inbound email with MS Exchange. Our sysadmin and myself were both unable to connect to our email server through Sugar. We determined that it was due to our passwords. Both of us had a # character in our passwords. We were able to get it to work by changing our passwords.

Not wanting to restrict the characters that are used in passwords I looked into the cause of the problem. This afternoon I made a change to the InboundEmail.js file that handles non alphanumeric characters in the password. It is working... so far.
