Carry over data from leads to opportunity?

Hi,

I'm a newcomer to Sugarcrm and I'm looking for a way to carry over data from the leads to the opportunity without needing to enter the data twice.

Ideally, I would want to add new fields to the ConvertLead form with default input values set according to the existing lead data. In turn, converting the lead would set the corresponding opportunity fields.

I was wondering what files I would need to edit in the Leads or Opportunity module to accomplish this.

My other option would be to make it so that the opportunity module takes the data from the lead records of the database. If anyone can indicate where I can start playing with this, that would help a lot.
