    Post Cases to Contacts

    Hi guys

We have just adopted SugarCRM Community Edition 5.5.2 and I ran in the first issue.
We need to relate Cases to Contacts as we are dealing with many private customers.
The issue I am facing is that when creating a new Case, even from the Contact view, it requires an Account as mandatory field.

Is there a way to have Cases related to Contacts and not requiring any Account? Moreover I need to trace cases related to Contacts not to Accounts.

I already made some searches around but I could not find any solid clue on this.

    Thanks
    Ascanio

    Hello,

In Studio -> Cases -> Layouts -> Editview/Detailview/...., you can move out the field "Account name".

    Thanks MatR

Ok I can remove Account, but how can I add the Contact so that the Case remains related to the Contact? I have played around to add a custom field but I did not manage to have a proper relation implemented so that I have the same behaviour I got with Account to the Contacts.

Also, what about I would like to have the possibility to relate a Case to a Contact OR to an Account (OR intended as inclusive) ?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

You can use the contact subpanel in Case modules.

Or you can add different fields, type "relate".

Or you can create new relationships with Account and/or Contact.

I ended up creating a custom module named "ContactCases" having both Contact and Account as Related fields and proper relations to both Contacts and Accounts. Now my ContactCase appears properly in the subpanels of both Contacts and Accounts, so I can easily add a ContactCase to each.

Now I would like the proper field (Contact or Account) to be auto populated. I see this has been a common question on the forum, but I am not able to follow the given instructions, possibly because they are older responses valid for older versions of SugarCRM?

Is there any updated (5.5.2) instruction about how to auto-populate a QuickCreate form in a subpanel?

    Thanks

    Hello,

To auto-populate fields, you need PHP or Javascript code customization.

On the forum or on the wiki, you will be able to find ways to do this.

Check for "logic hooks" or manually custom layouts ...

    Hi

Can you help pointing me to a couple of proper threads? I understand now about the logic hooks but I am not been able to find a way to populate from a parent module. I ended up searching documentation for the retrieve_parent_fields bean method but I could not find a description of the parameter to pass to it ($type_info) and what I get back.

Clearly I must miss something, I cannot believe there is no documentation on this.

I am been searching for hours on forums and wiki as well as google....

    Thanks a lot
    Ascanio
