Obvious question, but...have you have confirmed that the cases have an Assigned To value associated with them? Also, double check the filter/display options for the Cases dashlet to make sure you are not filtering out the cases you are expecting to see.

click the "my open case" sub panel edit button. i and check your filters. and refresh the sub panel.
