    Default Category creation.

    I noticed that there are no categories to assign to contacts, like one can with Outlook or even more basic address book type applications. Categories are important to "tag" contacts for this and that, then do a global search for all contacts with one or several categories to really narrow down a list for e-mail direct marketing. I saw mention of "custom fields" elsewhere on this board, but the SugarCRM user guide doesn't have this noted in the index. Can someone point me in the right direction here? Can one do a search for "custom fields" in order to put together a campaign or e-mail blast?

    Angel,

    Thank you very much for the quick reply. I'll sit down with a coffee tomorrow read through all that. Now, for my purposes noted in my first post, it seems possible to create a field and a drop-down list of (what we can call) categories to choose from. Questions:

    01. Can multiple categories be selected from a list in a field? Or...
    02. Would one have to (or can one even be able to) have multiple copies of the same field in the
    contact screen as a work-around?

    You could always make it a multi-select field and that would allow you to choose multiple values per record.

    I will play with those options--thank you again Angel. Now, just out of curiosity, could I then later do a global search for multiple fields within a label? If so, once the list is on the screen, can I select all and import into a campaign? How can one enter multiple fields into the search box? Or can I get a search box where I can put a check-mark beside each field I want on the list to look up every contact it's associated with, then hit search?
