change drop-down list name

Hi.

In previous versions of sugar, drop-down lists with improper names (i.e., "Region List" instead of "region_list") were allowed to be created. Now in 5.2, these drop-down lists cannot be modified because of the invalid name.

How can I change the names of these drop-down lists so that I can continue to add, remove or otherwise modify the drop-down items?

I'm looking for a solution that doesn't involve creating a new drop-down with a valid name with all the same items, then creating a new field that refers to it, then mass updating all records for each drop-down item. Is there a way?

follow up would be how to delete unused drop-down lists that have invalid names...I think I can delete them from the language.php file, but which "repair" needs to be done to correct the SugarCRM instance?
