code question: linking sales script with opportunity stage:

I'm trying to link each sales stage to a particular sales script and have that display in a field in the opportunities page, much like the percent probability currently does. I need a bigger field than just a single line. This will be a nice improvement, because you can then use the sales stage change as a trigger to show a new script. I'm okay with mySQL, but a newbie with php.

suggestions please.
