    Default Comapny Name in Leads

I'm doing a data import and am having a hard time figuring out where to put the Company Name in a lead. I do see 'Account Name but if I put the company name of a lead there would that not also create an account record/ I thought an account was just someone we did business with.

Put in the Account Name ... it will not create an Account until you convert the Lead to a Contact/Account using the Convert Lead process

salesagility is correct. The Account Name field in the Leads module is just a text field. Importing the account name into the leads module will NOT create an account record.

If you import records into the Contacts module and import the Account name field, then an Account record will be created. The Account Name field in the Contacts module is a lookup field to the Accounts module.

Are you saying it is not possible to create a contact and tie that contact to a company name without creating an account? I guess that would make sense. A contact is someone at an account you do business with. A lead could be imported from a trade show.

    Hi Chris,

Are you saying it is not possible to create a contact and tie that contact to a company name without creating an account?
Correct. If you have a contact that does not have an Account name, then you can import that contact and they will not be linked to any Account. If you import a Contact with company name that already exists in the system, then this new contact will be linked to the existing Account record. If you import a contact with a company name that does not already exist, then a new account record will be created.

Leads don't have direct links to the account module (the account name field on the leads module is simply a text field instead of a lookup field).
