Default Comparison grid of community edition to other editions?

    Two questions:

    1. I see that there is a nice grid that compares the features of the three non-free editions of Sugar.
    http://media.sugarcrm.com/datasheets...Comparison.pdf
Is there one that shows what the community version has... and does not have in relation to the others? It seems to me there used to be one of these but I can't find it anymore. (Maybe the community is the same as "Express?"

    2. Can I assume that if the community edition does NOT come with a feature that it cannot be added manually by the user. In order words the community edition is "crippled" in that the advanced features can't be added to it by a tech-savvy user. (Not a criticism... obviously the SugarCRM folks are in business to SELL the system, not give it away.)

    Thanks,
    Al

Community Edition is for the most part the same as Express, with these exceptions:

    • Express has the Outlook, Word, Excel and Thunderbird plug-ins
    • With Express, Sugar hosts the software for you in their On-Demand environment, though you are free to download it as well and host it in your environment.
    • Express users get 3 support cases from Sugar's Technical Support group

There may be others, but these are the biggest differences I can think of at the moment.

The Community Edition is Open Source software, which means you are free to modify it (add or remove features, make code changes, etc) however you want. It's not crippled. You are subject to the licensing rules (GPL v.3) that govern how those changes can be made available to others.

    Thanks Susie.

Can someone add the features that the Enterprise version has to the Community Edition? I know the code is open but are the modules from the paid-versions available to install in Community?

Also, when one buys the paid-for versions... do they get the source code (PHP) like in Community... or did you folks obfuscate/encrypt it with Zend or some other method?

Enterprise and Pro are under a different licensing scheme; they aren't under GPL and the features that are in those editions are not available as plug-ins from Sugar to the Community Edition. There are plug-ins and projects built by the community that mimic some Pro/Ent features, and you can choose to load those into your CE instance if you want. You'll have to get support for those plug-ins from the people who built them.

For the paid versions (Pro/Ent) you do receive the source code; it's not obfuscated, it's just PHP. You can choose to make modifications to that code if you're hosting it in your own environment (as opposed to our On-Demand environment).

Thanks for the explanation, Susie. I have a client who wanted to know the difference between CE and the others... and I didn't know what to tel her. Now I do.
