Configure Group Tabs is not changing Names

I keep trying to edit the names of the Group Tabs (i.e Support to Service) , I click the edit button, it allows me to change it but when I hit Save and Publish, the old Support name still shows up. It is happening with all of the group names...what am I doing wrong?

I even made sure that the box "Prevent user customizable subpanel layout:" in "Systems Settings" is unchecked....any clues????

How do I override it? or how do I get permission? I am the only Administrator

I've had the exact same problem! Also, if you try to add your own group tab, do you see the label key, rather than the value?

If so, check the custom language file custom/include/language/en_us.lang.php and make sure it has a closing php tag (?>). I've had this problem occurring randomly after editing things that are written into this custom language file. Adding ?> at the end of the file fixed the problem, if I remember correctly. Sometimes the edit from studio works out fine, but sometimes the custom file loses the closing php tag and that, of course, causes problems.

I'm having this same problem. If I create a new group, I can't name it. I only get "LBL_GROUPTAB7_1175899968" and it won't let me change the name of the other group tabs either. I'm the only admin.

Had the same problem. This fixed it.
Somewhere along the way the trailing "?>" was removed from that file.

same thing happened with my 5.0a version.
before this problem occurred, I'm changing the tab position too much. Enabling, disabling, adding new modules, delete it, and doing many things with tab configures. Suddenly, it won't work anymore.

I've tried to change the permission in custom module to 777 and I've put ?> in lang file. Still didn't fix it.

The configuration was saved but the tab layout doesn't change anymore. Anyone can help? Well, I need the quick fix so if there's nobody know about this, I must install a fresh sugar
