Default Connecting SugarCRM mail to Gmail on hosted server

    SugarCE 5.2.0d
    linux 2.6.28.5-grsec-sg2
    Apache 1.3.37
    MySQL 4.1.22
    PHP 5.2.6
    OpenSSL 0.9.7a

This is a hosted server I am trying to migrate to. I have upgraded from 4.2.1b and things are looking good, except for connecting to google apps for pop or imap and SMTP.

I have also tried to use a fresh install of 5.2.0c that they provide from cPanel Addon script with the same results. It appears that things are working, except connection to Gmail, or Google Apps mail.

I have read all the threads I can find on this, asked the Hosting facility (Siteground.com) to open ports 993, 995 and 465, verified that OpenSSL is enabled.

When I test the settings for IMAP or POP it asks me to check my settings.

When I try entering information for another POP server that Sugar can connect to, and attempt to use Gmail SMTP I get the following error in the UI: Error emailing:SMTPError: Could not connect to SMTP host.

Has anyone had any experience getting this to work in a hosted environment?
If so, please let me know any pointers.

    Thanks
    Jon

I also had used this fix below on a different instance of SugarOS 4.2.1b and it worked to send mail from a hosted server:

Is there a similar workaround for POP or IMAP and SMTP for 5.2.0d?

    Thanks again.

Default Resolved: Connecting SugarCRM mail to Gmail on hosted server

This is a no-go. I have spoken with support at Siteground, and though they were very helpful, they can't currently support this on the inexpensive, shared hosting accounts. The issue seems to be related with the PHP version incompatibility with IMAP over SSL (used by Gmail servers)

That bears out since I can send via smtp.gmail.com, but not receive via pop or imap from gmail servers.

Here is the workaround I am going to try that should have all mail pass through my google apps account, but still allow the users I need to check their email from Sugar to do so.

Each Sugar user will have email settings to pop from user@anotherdomainIhave.com, and send via user@googleappsdomain.com using smtp.gmail.com.

At the google apps user settings, I will set up those accounts that need to forward to the user@anotherdomainIhave.com account.

That way all mail sent and received will be available in the google apps login, and I will be able to use SugarCRM as needed.

Not clean, but it will do!
