Default Contacts & multiple campaigns; no need for Targets

We need to figure out how to associate my Contacts with multiple campaigns (I can only do one in the Contact field now) and view the Contact lists that are associated w/ each campaign.

Our company has no need for Target List and Target functions; only Leads and Contacts. Are these features needed to execute campaigns? For simplicity, can they be removed?

    Hi, 2Sugar.

Target List is necessary for executing email campaigns, but Target doesn't.

You can add more then 1 campaign to contacts easily if you are using SugarCRM 5.0
If not, then you have to customize by hand, creating a new field into Contacts which describe a list of campaigns, modify the relationship between contacts and campaigns, changing the relationship from one-to-many to many-to-many and create a new entry into layout_defs of contacts.

For removing the Targets subpanel you just can define an extended layoutdefs which unset the entry related to targets.

    Cheers

Thanks; I'm a newbie, have SugarCRM 5.0 and thought more specific example would be better...

I have contact John Smith from ACME Business. I need to mark him to be sent our holiday card and our company newsletter - I do that with various campaigns, right?

Also, with John Smith, I might have several "owners" to this contact, (we're using this as a company db system first and then going more global) - can I assign him to more than one user and if so, how?

Subclassifying also is needed with John Smith - his account is ACME Business, so thinking of using a custom field for that (to mark that he's part of Version A, Version B and Version C)

    Hi, 2Sugar.
Now I got the big picture.
When you say: I need to mark him to be sent our holiday card and our company newsletter - I do that with various campaigns, right?
It is not right. You don´t need to create a new relationship between Contacts and Campaigns for that.
Every email sent to a recipient (Prospects, Leads, Contacts and Users) are recorded into CampaignLog module and can be visible into CampaignLog Subpanel under Contacts. So, no work to do.

There is no way to assign a single contact (or any other record) to more then one user, unless you create a new relationship between both, like my obsolete suggestion over campaigns and contacts.
If you had the teams module you could assign this contact to a team which is related to a set of users.

I didin´t understand your third explanation and I´m looking forward this.

    Cheers

I apologize for resurrecting such an old thread, but could you please explain why this is easily accomplished in Sugar 5.0?

I'm trying to add a new Campaigns subpanel to the Contacts module that will show each campaign the contact is associated with.

No need to do that. Whenever you assign a contact to a campaign this campaign will appear in the subpanel campaigns under this contact.

I'm very confused - I've gone in to edit a load of contacts, one by one, and added them to a campaign. But now, when I click on the campaign, there are no contacts associated with the target list. I've tried adding them, but Sugar falls over if you try to select more than the first page of 20. Is there any way to just add the original 200 or so contacts I had added to the campaign?

I am not sure whether I understand what you are saying. But I guess you mean assigning contacts to a target list via the pop-up window, correct?
Unfortunately you can't pick more than 20 at once. Don't ask me why but in PRO there is a routine to add contacts/leads/targets to a target list. All of them. The conclusion is yours...
However, there is a way of doing it through the back door (in MySQL) or (I believe) through ZuckerReports (didn't check the latter). The query can be found here somewhere - if not I do have it as well.

    Hi,

Thanks very much for the reply! Do you mean that if we had professional we could add all the contacts fitting a certain criteria in one go (i.e. I could set a filter to pick up all those contacts I've already said are part of the campaign and then add them all in one go), or do you mean that I could add every contact we have to the campaign?

    Thanks!

Yes, it's the former. With Pro you define a report with all the criteria you need and then you add the result to a target list. Pretty simple.
