Default Contacts not linking to Accounts

I trying to import a csv file - generated in Excel. Import works but Contacts are not linking with Accounts. Tried all combinations.

could not generate an ID field because of long standing bug in Excel - it stops responding after 'autofill' operation.

Thought about using telephone or Company name as the Account ID. Is this feasible? Or is there something I am missing. Used to use Maximizer - worked a treat (Import Companies and then contacts)

    Hi LuckiestBoy,

add in a account name columns in your csv file and insert the contact's account name(should be exactly the same name in account module) and try to import (map the account name to contact's account name field).
It should be auto tag the contacts to the account.

Thanks Chinwoei for your reply, but it did not work. However, I did find reply for another post that worked this time. Only time will tell if it is kosher solution. That's not to have unmapped fileds.

Import feature is dated if this is the case and if it is not why have 'Do not map this filed..'?

    Anyway, will keep fingers crossed.

    I agree

I can't link contacts to accounts, through the import feature or via Talend.

    Any suggestions?

    I am using sugarcrm 5.5.3

Here is what worked for me.

Import Accounts first. In CSV file only have the fields that you are importing i.e. do not have any fields that you are not importing. When you have imported, just check that you do not have duplicates - saves time later on. I don't know why it creates duplicates. It just does sometimes.

Then do the same with Contacts but have Accounts field on Contacts CSV as well.

Your will contacts link to accounts perfectly.

Always import in order top to bottom. Accounts -contacts, Opportunities- Accounts thats works for all modules i found out in the early beginning of using Sugar

    Same problem exists in V6.0.
When I delete most (but not all) the unimported fields from contact.csv then the contacts get linked to accounts.

Its not a bug, its a feature?
