Copy custom field to other modules

I'm new to SugarCRM (and CRM in general). I'm preparing my first email campaign and importing a list of "Targets." There is a critical field "Category" that I created in the Accounts module. Is there a way to duplicate it to other modules? I'd like to have it show for Contacts and Leads as well as Targets.

I searched a long time before I posted, but *after* I posted saw links to several relevant threads, including this one:

So unless, things have changed, I'll assume I have to recreate the fields manually - a bit of a pain when you have dropdown lists. Also increases the chance for errors in re-inputting data.

I created a custom field as well - I named it "categoryverticals" - so I could put a descriptor for each client/lead/target - in my case things like - football, rowing, band, baseball
That way when I was creating a target list for a campaign, I could filter for the categoryvertical field and select all to include on that mail campaign.
In time I learned, what I think you are pointing out - that a drop down list is even better...
Which was really easy for me to add using the admin/ Studio function - drop down editor...
I created the drop down - giving it a unique label... and entering the "approved" possibilities as well as "other" to be my catch all for future work...
Once the drop down was completed - in studio, I went to each module that i wanted the drop downs to appear, say "Leads" - and went to Leads / Layouts / then selected each view in leads layouts that I wanted this field to appear in - and amazingly - it works@!!!! I also did this for contacts, campaigns, calls...
I could not believe how easy it was to manipulate the DB and add fields so efficiently.
