Creat file upload field for custom module

Hi,

I am using SugarCRM Community Edition v5.2.0a.

I am attempting to create a custom module, in which I need to allow users to upload files. Up until this point I have had no problems, but I can't figure out how to add a file upload field to a module. I don't see any data type that pertains to a file upload field when I am in the module builder.

From a quick google search it seems that one must edit files pertaining to the custom module in order to do this? Can someone point me to a good tutorial on how to do this, if it is in fact the case?

If not then I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I can see that there are file upload fields in other modules (documents) so I know Sugar must be capable of this.

Any help is appreciated.

How about doing this instead? Create a relationship with the Documents module. That way, you have all of the functionality that the out-of-the-box module provides you without doing anything more than creating the 1-1, 1-many, or many-many relationship.

OK, I think I follow what you're saying. My only question would be if I do this, do the files have to be uploaded in the Documents section first, to then be "linked" to from my custom module?

I would like it if I can just upload a file directly through my custom module interface.

It looks like if I create a relationship with the document module, that the files then need to be uploaded through the document module first, which isn't the functionality I am looking for.

You can create your custom module using "file" as type in your module builder.

I don't see any type of "file" in the module builder when I am creating fields though.

No, when you start to create a module you first create a "package". The next screen you create a module, this is where you specify "Module Name", ... and "Type" which can either be "basic, company, file, etc". If you choose "file" as type you will get the functionality for uploading documents.

Oh wow... ok. Is there any way to copy an existing custom module setup into a new module of type "file"?

I ask because I've already created my custom module based off the contact module. I don't really want to have to recreate it all over again by creating a new module of type file.
