create another assigned user field

Hi everyone,
I use sugarCRM CE 5.5.2 and I would like to make a relate field like "assigned to" for users.
That is to say, I want to allow two different users to be assigned to a Lead. One of this user must see this lead on his session. I find how create the field but the notification doesn't implement.

A lot of core code customization must be done to fully support an additional assigned user field. But for just notifications you'll want to look at customizing data\SugarBean.php->get_notification_recipients(). Any changes here are not upgrade safe and should be handled with care for future upgrade merging.

Came across this post as we are looking to implement something very similar - would like to be able to assign multiple users to records, primarily for the sake of allowing more than one user to receive alerts via workflows. We are using Sugar 5.5.1 Pro. But I'm not even getting as far as to add the additional field. When I go to add a relate field to a record I don't see the option to relate this field to the Users module. Was this functionality that post-dates 5.5.1 perhaps?
