Created Leads in campaigns status

Hi,

The campaign status shows "Leads Created" and "Contacts Created" subpanels.
I've never seen any result in these subpanels.
The documentation says: "These leads are created when targets identify the campaign and, as a result, are converted into leads".

I have absolutely no idea what "identify the campaign" mean.

Could someone explain how these leads or contacts are created?
