    Default creating groups

    Hi - Sugar newbie, etc

I would like to be able to create simple groups. For example, I would like to have a simple way for my colleagues to quickly bring up all the contacts at, say, the California Dept of Transportation. They could do a search by company of course, but is there a way of building groups for quick access? It seems a pretty simple thing to do, but I can't see an option anywhere

    Please forgive my newbieness!

I'm confused as to how having some sort of grouping feature would be easier than going to the account record for CA DOT and viewing the subpanel or going to the accounts list and searching for CA DOT. Both are pretty instantaneous. Is there more to what you'd like to do that I'm missing?

Hi, I have been managing sugar for a small non-profit for the past year with great success. I too would like a feature to group users into teams so that members of the team could see each others contacts, but the contact cannot be seen by users who are not members of the team. I would also like to have a hierarchic of teams. For example, we would like to have a Pittsburgh and Philadelphia team and then Pennsylvania team which would see both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, and an East Coast team which could see PA Pittsburgh and Philadelphia etc. I have figured out how to create the teams, but not a hierarchies of teams.

Groups have been asked for for years. You have some options.

Click Admin, Studio, Contacts (or whatever you need a group for). Make your own group functionality. There's a lot of ways to do this depending on what you want. Try starting like this Add a DropDown field. Call it groups. Then create a new drop down list for groups. Next edit the layouts where you want groups to show.

But this is limited, as paul said there is a need to do hierarchy of groups and this gets complicated to do in the Studio. Every other CRM software supports this! Groups need to be a core feature, this is the number one reason people say they can't use SugarCRM in my experience. "Please forgive my newbieness!" is such a typical response for this because people can't possibly imagine a CRM program that's been out for years to not support groups. </rant>
