Default Creating/Implementing Custom Database Contact Fields

    Hi.

I'm seriously new to SugarCRM, and in the process of trying to figure out how to add custom fields to the contact database for SugarCRM.

I have an existing database of company information, and I'm trying to determine how I expand the current SugarCRM contact/account information/database to include the fields that I need. Also, once I do manage to expand/create customized fields for SugarCRM, how do I import the data that I have from my mysql database/tables...

Any pointers to sites/information/walk-thoughts on this would be greatly helpful.

    I'm using 5.0, on Fedora 8, with mysql5.0.45, apache2.2.8.

    Thanks

    Hi Mark:

Creating custom database fields for Contacts and Accounts is quite easy.
You need to work through Sugar Studio for this.
If you are new, Go to admin and click on Studio you get a Sugar Studio where you can go to contacts or account and edit the existing fields or add custom fields.
You can access Sugar University online information on how to use Studio.

Once you add the custom fields you can import all your contacts by the import feature of Sugar.
Pool all your data into csv file (Comma Separated File ) and go to Contacts tab and use import feature.
While importing it will ask you what fields to map to what.

    With Warm Regards

    HI Ram..

Just implemented what you described when I saw your posting. It appears that I now have the ability to see the added customized field in the accounts layout/database.

    Thanks for the input.!!
