Default Creating Note - Assigned to not available/missing

Tried looking for this on the forum, no luck!

It ses that with 4.5.0f, when you create a note, either via the full form or the inline create function, the note is not automatically assigned to anyone. In both versions there is no way of changing the assigned person either (not sure whether that makes any sense though).

Installation 4.5.0f is a new installation, same with an instance that was upgraded

Anyone else seeing the same problem?
    Cheers Malcolm

Hmm, I don't remember if it was ever possible to assign a user to a note.

There is a column "Assigned User" in the subpanel (Contacts, Accounts, Leads..) but the table 'notes' does not have a column 'assigned_user_id'. I think the column "Assigned User" ist not for notes, just for emails.

    Did I miss something?

Question Re: Creating Note - Assigned to not available/missing

I have also been looking into this, it would be ideal to be able to send a note to a user, asking them to review/update a Case, rather than setting up a task.

You mention that within the Database the notes table does not include assigned_user_id column - if this column was added would this functionality become available (once it is added to the html form)?

For some reason the field is available from the studio editor, but doesn't appear to work when added.

Great, you had a similar idea to ours. Our idea was to create a note say of a tel. conv. when the correct person is not available and then forward it to the assigned person.

Looks like a good feature request!

I notice that this thread is quite old, but it seems nothing has ever been done about it.

Sugar has some fantastic features, but there are some major gaffes that seriously make me wonder if the dev team actually have any experience running a sales oriented organization!

The ability to assign a note to a specific user seems to me to be an absolute requirement. If you have a team of several people all working one account (admin people, support people, sales people), it is critical to be able to segregate the notes added to that account by who placed the note (i.e. who the note is assigned to).

Notes become completely useless when there is no way to assign them to users. It's impossible to tell WHO entered the note, WHO spoke with the client, WHO had lunch with the client, WHO sent them that invoice, etc...

Has there been any movement on this issue in the last year?

Or am I reading this wrong?

We are also desperate for this, it really is a big oversight.

I tried the fix here, but couldn't make it work.

This still exists in my 5.0a install. Any idea why? If I'm looking at an Opportunity that I created a note for, the History Subpanel has a column for "Assigned User" that is always BLANK!

What is the point of this default column in the subpanel listview if it doesn't show anyone and there is NO WAY TO SPECIFY an assigned to???????!!!!

Ok, just played with it a bit more and think I know why the "Assigned User" column is in the subpanel. It is because Notes is lumped in with Archived Emails, and since Emails can be assigned to someone the column has to be there...

It would be a nice core mod (or hack) if the subpanel just displayed the modified user ID (as suggested by the previous link). Anyone want to give a 5.0 version of this mod a go?

Yes, this is a major problem. We want to assign cases to specific users who have a role that only can view "Cases" , but there is no way to assign notes to them so any notes associated with a case cannot be seen by them. I can set it up so they can see all notes in the system, then they will see the notes with the cases assigned to them, but that is unacceptable.

If there's a workaround to assign users to notes, please post.
