cron.php generating errors

Windows 2003 Server
Sugar Version 4.5.1e (Build 1049)
Apache 2.2
PHP 5.2.2
MS-SQL Express

Sugar works fine and we have been using it for many months now, however when I try to run the cron.php file I get the following:

PHP Warning: mssql_close(): supplied argument is not a valid MS SQL-Link resource in C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\htdocs\Sugar\include\database \MssqlManager.php on line 89
Could not connect to server GEMINI as SugarCRM.

Any thoughts on what I could try?

Update.. if I run cron.php from the web browser (ie http://www.mysite.com/cron.php) it works fine and runs everything it is suppose to. Why when I run it from the command line would it give these errors?
