custom date fields on web-to-lead forms

Hello,
I have a custom date field, when I use it on a web-to-lead form it displays a form field with a JS calendar, and when I select a date it fills the field with format MM/DD/YYYY
everything ok, but when I submit the form the custom date field takes always the default value (01/01/2000)
It's a sugar known bug?

I saw a similar post here: http://apps.sugarcrm.com/forums/showthread.php?p=213466 but I understand that is not exactly the same process.

My sugar is Versión 5.2.0e (Build 5626)
and PHP 5.2.11 (cli) (built: Sep 21 2009 14:52:42)

It works if I change the default date format on regional config to match the form format (MM/DD/YYYY)

any chance to get this working with other date formats?
should I fill a bug?
