Noob here. Working on basics within Trial Version of On Demand Professional - am giving Sugar a shot against Salesforce for a consulting firm Sales/Marketing platform. In trying to do a very basic custom filed addition, I'm hitting a strange and frustrating block. Every time I follow the process for Creating a Custom Field, things proceed fine until I go to place the field in the Edit Layout screen. where is it? The only fields visible are the Sugar fields, and the only option relating to a Custom Field is the Add Custom Field button at the top of the screen - which simply creates a NEW custom field - it doesn't access the one I've previously created.

The icing on the cake comes when I relent and create a new custom field from within the Edit Layout screen prompt. It does appear on the left with the Sugar fields, but upon drag & drop into the form, I get a single gray line with no Field label or the drop-down I specified. I save & publish, but nothing appears in the Opportunities Detail or Edit screen.

The stated process for Custom Field creation, then placement from within Edit Layout (specific to a module, in this case, Opps), seems to be missing some key step or is broken. I am simply wanting to add a new custom field, drop-down, to the Opps. screens. Please tell me I don't have to get inside the page HTML to make this work, otherwise back to Salesforce. This activity takes less than five minutes anywhere else. What am I missing? I have read numerous threads, but nothing is working.
